Encouraging Spiritual Intimacy Unto Christ-Like Fruitfulness

A Word For This Jonah Generation

And while the crowds were thickly gathered together, He began to say, “This is an evil generation. It seeks a sign, and no sign will be given to it except the sign of Jonah the prophet.  For as Jonah became a sign to the Ninevites, so also the Son of Man will be to this generation”. – Luke 11:29-30

In prayer, the Lord spoke to me concerning revival and awakening of the church.  We are that Jonah generation that is to be given as a sign to the world. We are approaching the third day & night in the belly of the fish & the church is about to be spit out.  Just as Jonah avoided his assignment and fled responsibility of the call, we too, have lost sight of being called to inherit the nations.  We became self-absorbed and isolated.  The world sees the church as irrelevant and a mockery.  Global economy and world events have brought a shaking to the world and to the church.  This is similar to the great tempest that hit the ship Jonah was on when fleeing to Tarshish (Jonah 1).  And there has been a shaking in the earth, so that what cannot be shaken will remain (Hebrews 12:18-29).

Being thrown overboard and being swallowed by the fish only served to bring Jonah to seek the Lord earnestly.

Then Jonah prayed to the LORD his God from the fish’s belly. And he said: “I cried out to the LORD because of my affliction, And He answered me. “Out of the belly of Sheol I cried, [And] You heard my voice. – Jonah 2:1-2

There is a wave of repentance that is coming to the church.  There is a spirit of repentance that is gaining momentum that is turning our eyes towards the Lord to truly seek Him in humility.  It will not result in religious condemnation but in thanksgiving.

I went down to the moorings of the mountains; The earth with its bars [closed] behind me forever; Yet You have brought up my life from the pit, O LORD, my God. “When my soul fainted within me, I remembered the LORD; And my prayer went [up] to You, Into Your holy temple. “Those who regard worthless idols Forsake their own Mercy.  But I will sacrifice to You With the voice of thanksgiving; I will pay what I have vowed. Salvation [is] of the LORD.” – Jonah 2:6-9

This is the birthing of an awakening and revival and this is the sign of Jonah that will be presented to the world in this new season.

So the LORD spoke to the fish, and it vomited Jonah onto dry [land].  Now the word of the LORD came to Jonah the second time, saying, “Arise, go to Nineveh, that great city, and preach to it the message that I tell you.” – Jonah 2:10; 3:1-2

Our message is one of reconciliation.

All this is from God, who reconciled us  to himself through Christ and gave us the ministry of reconciliation:  that God was reconciling the world to himself in Christ, not counting men’s sins against them. And he has committed to us the message of reconciliation.  We are therefore Christ’s ambassadors, as though God were making his appeal through us. We implore you on Christ’s behalf: Be reconciled to God.  God made him who had no sin to be sin for us, so that in him we might become the righteousness of God. – 2Corinthians 5:18-21

We need not be concerned what we will say or how it will be received.  It will be given as it was given to Jonah (Jonah 3:2).  If the people of Jonah repented at the preaching of his message, how much greater results should we expect.

Or do you think lightly of the riches of His kindness and tolerance and patience, not knowing that the kindness of God leads you to repentance? – Romans 2:4

Revival is coming.  And it is not for us to huddle in meetings and close our doors.  This revival like all revivals is for the general public.  So as TD Jakes would say, “Get ready!  Get ready! Get ready!”

“The men of Nineveh will rise up in the judgment with this generation and condemn it, for they repented at the preaching of Jonah; and indeed a greater than Jonah [is] here. “No one, when he has lit a lamp, puts [it] in a secret place or under a basket, but on a lampstand, that those who come in may see the light. – Luke 11:32-33

The spirit of a man [is] the lamp of the LORD,… – Proverbs 20:27

God is expecting His lamps to shine brightly in public places.  Again, “Get ready!”
